Nazaret Kurkhcyan

Nazaret Kurkchyan was born in 1967 in Tibilisi (Georgia), then moved with his family to Yerevan (Armenia) . His mother was a pianist and his father an engineer. Nazaret lived surrounded by music and at very young age he expressed his wish to play double bass.

He first studied at the Yerevan State Conservatory with Vahe Terzian. Then went to Leningrad (now St Petersburg) to study at the Leningrad Conservatory in Russia, with Boris Kozlov, and Sophia Vakman between 1988 and 1991. Following studies were run from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris (France) with Prof Philippe Canales, studying the category of Chamber Music and soloist.
Since an early age Nazaret Kurkchyan has gone for competitions. Having brought quite a lot of them.

• First Prize Transcaucasia Music Competition (1985)
• USSR national music competition Award (1988)
• Geneva Music competition A (1990)
• First Prize International Youth music competition, Murcia, Spain (1991)
• Ecole Normale De Musique Paris, France, Grand Prix winner (jury unanimous decision) (1995)

Nazaret Kurkchyan has attended numerous Master classes from Yevegni Kolosov, Mikhail Milman, and plays regularily with the Moscow Virtuosi Principals.

He is first double bass player of the Cordoba Symphonic Orchestra, and is regularly invited by the Valencia Symphonic Orchestra, the Malaga Symphonic Orchestra, the Mumbai Symphonic Orchestra and the St Petersburg Chamber orchestra.. He is current resident in Spain.
