Elif Yurdakul


Born in 1979 in Germany, flutist Elif Yurdakul started her musical education at the age of five. She was accepted to Bilkent University Music and Performing Arts Faculty Preperatory School in 1993 and studied with Eva Zakorskaya and Muzaffer Agamali-zadeh. 1999, She participated in the Vienna Music Seminar and won the ‘Kimiko -Sato’ first prize at the competition. She played W.A. Mozart flute concerto no.1 with the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra’s Young Generation Soloists concert series in 2000. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Bilkent University Music and Performing Arts Faculty in Ankara, Turkey in 2001 from the class of Stiliana Stavreva, continuing her graduate studies at the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory in Istanbul and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK where she studied, among others, with Peter Lloyd and Richard Davis. She participated in the International master-classes of Jean-Michel Tanguy, Sir James Galway, Emmanuel Pahud, Maxence Larrieu and Robert Langevin and attended flutist Sibel Kumru Pensel’s classes in Antibes, France.

Elif Yurdakul won the second prize at the British Council’s ‘Young Musician of the Year Competition’ in 2001 and the 1st prize at the International Haifa Flute Competition in 2005 in Israel. She lives in Istanbul where she is widely appreciated as a solo and a chamber musician.

She has recorded a solo flute album named “Dalgalar (Waves)” in 2014, covering works from 20th century solo flute repertoire.

With Istanbul Wind Ensemble, they recorded a chamber music album consisting of Turkish composers programme with the support of pianist and composer Fazıl Say.

Elif Yurdakul currently holds the Principal flutist position of the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
